Centre to develop non-personal data collection platform for India Inc.

As part of the newly launched India AI Mission, Union Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Skill Development, Entrepreneurship, and Jal Shakti, Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar, revealed plans to develop a non-personal data collection platform exclusively accessible to Indian startups and companies. Emphasizing the significance of data sets in AI development, He highlighted the platform's reserved access for domestic entities and the mission's focus on creating sovereign AI models based on local languages and datasets.

The government, committing US$ 241.6 million (Rs. 2,000 crore) to fund Indian startups in the Artificial Intelligence domain, aims to foster innovation through the India AI Mission, with an allocated outlay of US$ 1.3 billion (Rs. 10,372 crore) for five years. This initiative seeks to develop foundational models exceeding 100 billion parameters and establish India AI Innovation Centres (IAIC) to create AI solutions tailored for India-specific use cases, spanning health, agriculture, education, security, governance, and language translation. He also announced the establishment of 10 AI labs in Thiruvananthapuram's colleges, underscoring the mission's commitment to building digital infrastructure and advancing AI capabilities in the country.
