By 2025, Chennai, which is largely populated by single travellers, is anticipated to have India's fastest rate of growth for South African tourists. With 7.5% of Indian visitors from the city, Chennai was the third-largest Indian feeder market to South Africa in 2021.

The tourism board also had discussions with the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corp. to discuss skill development and other prospective partnerships, as well as interacting with other significant business and travel players.

The tourism board had earlier this year laid out a strategic roadmap to bring in a 64% YoY rise in Indian tourists by 2022. The tourism board is on track to meet or even exceed its yearly targets of 28,890 visitors from India to South Africa with over 17,627 visits from January-May of this year.

India's outbound tourism market size was close to US$ 27 million in 2019, according to Statista.
