During April-January of FY'22, Coal India's (CIL) supply to coal-fired power plants in the country increased by 23% to 441.4 million tonnes (MTs), compared to 358.2 MT dispatch during the same period last year. In FY19, the business plans to exceed the previous high of 491MTs delivered to thermal power plants. According to a top official, CIL is also seeking to exceed the current fiscal's off-take target of 548 MTs to the power industry.

CIL supplied an additional 80 MTs of coal to all of its clients, bringing the total off-take to 542.4 MTs during April to January, up from 463 MTs the previous year.  CIL produced 478 MTs of coal until January 2022 of the current FY, up 25 MTs over the previous year's 453 MTs, or a 5.5% increase.

The executive said, “Our coal output was hampered during the monsoon which was extensive and extended but we still managed to register 25 MTs increase till January in absolute terms.”

CIL's total coal delivery for January'22 increased 14% to 60.8 MTs, up from 53.5 MTs the previous month. In January of this year, supply to thermal power plants increased by 24% to 50.7 MTs, an increase of 10 MTs over the same month previous year when despatch was 40.8 MTs. CIL's pithead stock was reduced to 35.6 MTs at the end of January'22, after the business liquidated roughly 64 MTs of coal inventory over FY'22's first ten months. CIL started the fiscal year with a stockpile of 99 MTs. As of January 27, the CEA monitored indigenous coal stock in power plants was 23 MTs, with CIL accounting for more over 90% of the stock.
