Recently, the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) partnered with IP Bazzaar for conducting a roundtable titled "Minerals That Matter: Geopolitics, Sovereignty & Value Chains" in New Delhi. This roundtable saw the participation of top policymakers, defence strategists, industry leaders, tech innovators, academicians, and intellectual property professionals. During the inaugural address, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee Air Marshal Mr. Ashutosh Dixit said, "Today’s defence architectures, jet engines, missiles, precision-guided weapons, radars, satellites, batteries, and semiconductors depend immensely upon assured access to critical minerals. The world’s critical minerals supply chains are highly concentrated and increasingly constrained by export control regulations and geopolitical tensions, thereby making their import dependence an important strategic vulnerability for India in achieving its vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.”
Discussing domestic initiatives for the development of indigenous capabilities, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff to the Chairman of Chiefs of Staff Committee, Air Marshal Mr. Ashutosh Dixit focused on activities like the identification of critical minerals, the launching of the National Critical Mineral Mission, and the efforts of the government for the development of the entire value chain ranging from mining to processing and recycling. Another highlight of the meeting was the launching of a compilation of 30 technical reports on critical minerals, and the display of their intellectual property landscape analyses and market studies. The discussion emphasized the importance of robust mineral supply chains that can play an important role in terms of defence preparedness and help India achieve rapid growth.
