After visiting Mumbai as part of his ongoing trip to India, Apple CEO Mr. Tim Cook paid a visit to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi in New Delhi. During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Cook stated that Apple is dedicated to expanding and investing across the country.

Following the meeting, Mr. Cook tweeted that he shared Modi's vision of the beneficial influence that technology can have on India's future, from education and developers to manufacturing and the environment. The PM also tweeted, saying it was a "delight to exchange views on diverse topics and highlight the tech-powered transformations taking place in India."

Additionally, Mr. Cook, who is in India for a four-day visit, inaugurated the first two Apple stores and urged the government to maintain policy stability.

Mr. Cook also emphasised the need for ongoing support in establishing the component supply chain ecosystem in his meetings with the PM and the two important ministers in charge of overseeing the electronics industry, Communications Minister Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw and Minister of State for IT and Electronics Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar. A step-up in workforce skilling for the electronics industry was also mentioned.

Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw tweeted that the government has asked Apple to expand iPhone production and investment in the country as the Cupertino-based tech giant looks outside China. He also added that the discussion focused on employment creation, particularly for women, while ''charting a long-term and robust connection''. This is despite the fact that women make up about 72% of Apple's blue-collar workforce in India (including vendors and suppliers).

Mr. Rajeev Chandrasekhar also tweeted that "We discussed deepening and broadening manufacturing, exports, skilling of youth, expanding app innovation economy, and job creation".
