Union Communications Minister Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia said India followed the world on 4G, marched with it on 5G and will lead the world on 6G, addressing the Indian Foundation for Quality Management (IFQM) Symposium 2026 in New Delhi. Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia said the country has become a telecom equipment exporter from being an importer, and that eight to nine semiconductor fabs are coming up in the country, including one in the north-eastern states. Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia highlighted that mobile phone production in India stood at nearly Rs. 2 lakh crore (US$ 27.32 billion) in 2020, compared with Rs. 6.27 lakh crore (US$ 66.03 billion) today, with 100% of all mobile phones used in the country now made domestically.
Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia also noted that India is the second-largest mobile telecom market in the world, with 1.35 billion mobile connections in the country, underscoring the scale of the domestic telecom and electronics manufacturing ecosystem that has developed over recent years.
