Union Minister of Textiles, Mr. Giriraj Singh, expressed confidence that India’s technical textile industry will surpass the US$ 10 billion target set for 2030 during the inauguration of the international conference-cum-exhibition, ‘Viksit Bharat - Technical Textiles for Sustainable Growth & Development,’ in New Delhi. He highlighted the growing significance of man-made fibres and technical textiles in everyday life globally and domestically.
Shri Singh launched the Compendium of the National Technical Textiles Mission (NTTM) and awarded confirmation certificates to 11 approved start-ups under the mission. He emphasized the government's commitment to developing the technical textiles sector. He cited initiatives such as the NTTM and the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for man-made fibre fabrics and technical textiles. The Minister noted that 156 research projects had been approved, focusing on areas like carbon fibre development and start-up support. He particularly mentioned the potential of Meditech products, especially hygiene items, in achieving growth targets. The conference, organized by the Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with FICCI and the Indian Technical Textile Association, also featured discussions on employment, innovation, and the industry's future. Union Minister of State for Textiles, Ms. Pabitra Margherita, and Secretary of the Ministry, Ms. Rachna Shah, highlighted the importance of technical textiles in India’s self-reliance and the vast market opportunities available, with global trade in this sector estimated at US$ 300 billion.
