On Tuesday, addressing the Bloomberg New Economy Conference, Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi has stated that the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic showed the world that cities, which are growth engines, are the most vulnerable. “We were given an opportunity by Covid-19 to reset before restarting. Rejuvenating urban centres would be a strong point for restarting now,” PM Mr. Modi said.
He further said, "Lockdown faced opposition around the globe. But as the building block of our towns is not concrete but culture, Indian cities complied with lockdown regulations.
The inaugural forum was held in Singapore, followed by a second edition in Beijing addressing topics such as global economic governance, trade and investment, technology, urbanisation, capital markets, climate change and inclusion.
Some of the other speakers planned to address the forum are the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Mr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, former UK Prime Minister Mr. Tony Blair, former US President Mr. Bill Clinton, Microsoft founder Mr. Bill Gates, and United Nations Secretary-General Mr. Antonio Guterres.
