Dabur India sets up Rs 250 crore manufacturing plant in Tezpur

New Delhi: Dabur India Ltd on Thursday said it had commissioned a new manufacturing facility in Tezpur, Assam, spread over 30 acres and built at an estimated cost of Rs 250 crore.

The plant, located in the Balipara Industrial area, will manufacture the entire range of Dabur’s ayurvedic medicines, health supplements, hair oils, shampoos, toothpastes, skin care and home care products, a company statement said.

Dabur, which has 29 other factories across India and a few in other countries where it operates, said the Tezpur manufacturing facility is its largest worldwide.

“The Tezpur plant reflects our confidence in the continuous growth and expansion of our fast moving consumer goods (FMCG) business in India and our strong commitment to Assam as a strategic manufacturing hub,” Dabur India chairman Anand C. Burman said in the statement.

Dabur, which has been facing stiff competition from yoga guru turned business man Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved Ltd for the past couple of years, reported a 7.3% dip in consolidated net profit in the quarter ended 31 December.

In its result statement, the company cited a cash crunch brought on by demonetisation as the reason for a 6% decline in sales during the quarter.

Dabur shares closed down 0.47% at Rs 274.05 on the BSE while the benchmark Sensex index was up by 115.99 points, or 0.39%, to 29,647.42 points on Thursday.
