Daikin Industries will invest Rs. 1,000 crore (US$ 108.18 million) in India to establish its first global research and development (R&D) centre outside Japan, underscoring India’s rising importance in the company’s global innovation roadmap. The new facility will focus on software and product development for chillers and air-conditioning systems, particularly for data centres, residential buildings, and commercial infrastructure worldwide. According to Mr. KJ Jawa, Managing Director, Daikin Airconditioning India, the move reflects the parent company’s confidence in India’s technical ecosystem and long-term manufacturing potential. The company plans to hire around five hundred engineers from leading institutions, reinforcing India’s position as a global engineering and product development hub.

The proposed centre is likely to be located near Daikin’s existing manufacturing base in Neemrana, Rajasthan, strengthening the company’s integrated strategy across manufacturing, exports, component localisation, and product innovation. The investment is expected to accelerate India’s role in next-generation cooling technologies, especially for the fast-growing data centre and energy-efficient building segments. For exporters and ministries, this development is strategically significant as it can deepen India’s capabilities in HVAC components, industrial cooling systems, and engineering services exports, while also supporting high-value employment and technology transfer.
