Delhi Airport Climbs 11 Places To 28th Globally

Delhi airport has climbed 11 places to rank 28th globally in Official Airline Guide (OAG)’s 2026 ranking of the world’s most-connected international airports, recording the strongest performance among Indian airports. Delhi moved up from 39th place in the previous edition and was the only Indian airport to feature in the global top 50. It ranked ninth in the Asia-Pacific region and ninth among the world’s low-cost mega hubs. Delhi recorded 2,174 possible international connections during the ranking period, compared with 1,819 for Mumbai. IndiGo accounted for 40% of flights at Delhi airport, underlining the airline’s significant role in the airport’s international connectivity.
Mumbai airport, India’s other major international gateway, ranked 11th in the global low-cost mega hub category, with IndiGo accounting for 43% of flights and 60% of the airport’s low-cost-carrier capacity. Delhi and Mumbai remain key international gateways for India, with Delhi handling a significant share of international connecting traffic and Mumbai serving as an important gateway for traffic between India and markets across the Middle East, Europe and Asia. The improvement in Delhi’s global connectivity ranking highlights the expanding international reach of India’s aviation network and the growing role of its major airports in connecting Indian and global markets.
