Delhi is preparing to launch its 'Logistics and Warehousing Policy 2025' to reform its freight and supply chain network, as reported by The Times of India. This initiative aims to alleviate city congestion and reduce pollution by focusing on establishing dedicated logistics hubs, green freight corridors, and technology-driven solutions. Key measures include relocating warehouses to the city’s periphery, consolidating freight at modern Urban Consolidation and Logistics Distribution Centres (UCLDCs), and promoting electric and compressed natural gas (CNG) vehicles for last-mile deliveries. Minister of Government of Delhi-NCT, Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa, stated that these strategies would significantly reduce vehicular emissions and improve air quality in congested areas such as Azadpur, Ghazipur, Naraina, and Karol Bagh. Delhi currently manages 10 lakh tonnes of freight daily, involving 1.93 lakh vehicles, with approximately one-fifth merely transiting the city.

The policy is underpinned by 16 critical action points, introducing measures such as 24/7 operations at logistics parks, enabled by amendments to the Model Shops Act, and the implementation of a digital delivery management system. It also proposes designated commercial parking areas equipped with loading bays, developed under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The policy seeks to address chronic issues like truck parking shortages and outdated freight handling, thereby fostering an efficient and environmentally friendly supply chain. To support industry stakeholders, the policy offers various subsidies and incentives, including land lease discounts for traders relocating warehouses from congested zones, financial assistance for upgrading cold chains and storage facilities, and green energy incentives for solar-powered warehouses and energy-efficient designs. Developed by the Department of Industries, this policy integrates with the National Logistics Policy, aiming to transform Delhi’s logistics landscape, ease traffic, and minimise pollution, thus streamlining business operations.
