The Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, in collaboration with the Ministry of AYUSH and the AYUSH Export Promotion Council (AYUSHEXCIL), organised a Government–Industry Brainstorming Session in New Delhi to strengthen India's global leadership in the AYUSH sector. Held under the theme "Strengthening India's Global Leadership in Traditional Wellness: Innovation, Quality, Exports and International Collaboration in the AYUSH Sector," the session brought together more than 150 participants, including Government officials, exporters, manufacturers, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), startups, researchers, industry associations and State Licensing Authorities. Deliberations focused on leveraging opportunities arising from India's Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), enhancing global branding of AYUSH, improving export facilitation, strengthening quality standards and World Health Organization-Good Manufacturing Practices (WHO-GMP) compliance, promoting scientific validation and addressing regulatory and market access challenges. The discussions also highlighted the growing global demand for traditional wellness products and the importance of positioning India as a trusted global hub for holistic healthcare.
The session reaffirmed the Government's commitment to developing the AYUSH sector as a high-potential sunrise export industry through greater innovation, quality assurance, branding and international collaboration. Emphasis was placed on accelerating flagship initiatives such as Ayush Mark and Ayurveda Aahar to strengthen product quality, global competitiveness and market readiness. Stakeholders also highlighted the need for enhanced capacity building, particularly for exporters and MSMEs, alongside closer collaboration between Government, industry and research institutions to align Indian standards with international benchmarks. An interactive open-house discussion generated recommendations on improving market access, ease of doing business, innovation and export promotion. The outcomes of the brainstorming session are expected to support future policy interventions, strengthen Brand India AYUSH and expand India's presence in the global traditional wellness market.
