The Department of Posts (DoP) has reached an important milestone in its journey to digitally transform the company through the countrywide implementation of the Advanced Postal Technology (APT) platform. Also known as IT Modernization Project 2.0, it is a digital platform created internally by the Centre for Excellence in Postal Technology (CEPT) and hosted on MeghRaj 2.0 Cloud; it is 100% indigenous. APT has been implemented at 1.70 lakh Post Offices through 23 Postal Circles. The APT platform integrates all aspects of the postal service into one cohesive digital layer. Branch Post Offices have received smartphones running the Digital Rural Enterprise Application for Mobile (DREAM) App to enhance rural service delivery, improve connectivity, and enhance the customer experience. The Core Banking Solution (CBS) network has been expanded, linking 25,022 Departmental Post Offices (DPOs) and enabling seamless financial transactions.
The Government is investing in far-reaching improvements to support last-mile financial inclusion; as such, every Postman and GDS now has access to smartphones and biometric devices to provide a variety of doorstep banking services. Ultimately, the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) allows the Department of Posts to provide customers with enhanced services, including account opening processes, the Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS), Digital Life Certificate, and micro-insurance with third-party partners, a means of linking together Post Office Savings Accounts, as well as the provision of credit referral services and updating mobile numbers within Aadhaar, and enrolling children under the age of five into Aadhaar accounts.
