Domestic airlines carried approximately 1.29 crore passengers in April 2023

According to the official data released, the domestic airlines carried 1.29 crore passengers in April, 2023, witnessing an increase of more than 22% from the same month in 2022. The total number of passengers carried by airlines in April, 2022 was 1.05 crore.

Furthermore, in April, 2023, the domestic air traffic was 1.28 crore.

As per the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, in total, the passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-April, 2023 were 5.03 crore, as against 3.52 during the same period last year, thereby witnessing an annual growth of 42.88% and a monthly growth of 22.2%.

Akasa Air topped the list in terms of On-Time Performance (OTP) in April at 94%, which was followed by Air India (91.1%) and IndiGo (89.6%). Vistara had an OTP of 86.5%, followed by, AirAsia India (82.9%), SpiceJet (69.2%), and Alliance Air (67.9%).

IndiGo's domestic market share increased to 57.5% in April from 56.8% in the prior month. AirAsia India’s (now AIX Connect) market share remained unchanged at 7.6% in April, and that of Akasa Air rose to 4%.
