Doordarshan (Prasar Bharati) Signs MoU with ICCR to Expand Global Reach of Indian Cultural Content

In a significant move to strengthen India’s cultural diplomacy and global outreach, Doordarshan (Prasar Bharati) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Indian Council for Cultural Relations on April 7, 2026, in New Delhi. The partnership aims to leverage Doordarshan’s extensive television, radio and digital ecosystem to amplify the reach of cultural content developed by Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR). This includes coverage of cultural events organised by Indian Missions abroad such as embassies, consulates and Indian cultural centres as well as programmes conducted across ICCR’s headquarters and regional offices in India. The collaboration focuses on expanding access to India’s diverse cultural expressions across geographies using modern media platforms.

Under the agreement, ICCR will provide cultural performances and content, while Doordarshan will handle their production, promotion and dissemination across multiple platforms, including TV channels, radio networks, OTT platforms and social media. The MoU also allows for the broadcast of recorded cultural content received from Indian Missions overseas, ensuring wider accessibility. A key feature is the provision for joint ownership of content rights on a long-term basis, including digital rights, enabling both organisations to archive and reuse content for long-term engagement. Additionally, Doordarshan will explore monetisation opportunities arising from this collaboration, supporting sustainable cultural broadcasting. The agreement will remain valid for three years, with scope for extension by mutual consent and is expected to significantly enhance the visibility of India’s cultural heritage globally.
