DP World and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) have launched an innovative logistics solution for the petrochemicals industry, shifting product transportation from road to rail to reduce carbon emissions significantly. The solution connects RIL’s Jamnagar plant in Gujarat to DP World’s Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Ahmedabad, with further connectivity to the Mundra Port. Previously, the Mundra-Jamnagar-Mundra round trip involved approximately 700 kilometers of road transport per container. The new Ahmedabad-Jamnagar-Mundra rail route, covering the same distance, eliminates long-haul road transport challenges while maintaining operational efficiency.
The integrated rail service enables the transport of up to 1,260 tonnes of cargo, consolidating 45 containers in a single movement, thereby reducing trailer dependency and optimising logistics. This shift cuts over 700 km of road transport per container, significantly reducing carbon emissions and supporting RIL’s environmental sustainability targets. Chief Operating Officer DP World Marine Services Global, Mr. Ganesh Raj, stated that this initiative aligns with Reliance’s sustainability commitments, ensuring greater efficiency, seamless coordination, and timely exports. Head of Petrochemical Supply Chain Management (SCM) Operations, RIL, Mr. Ravikumar Nair, highlighted that the transition to rail has streamlined operations, reduced emissions, and eliminated 45 road-trailer movements, reinforcing RIL’s commitment to a sustainable and efficient supply chain.
