The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry's One District One Product (ODOP) programme launched its first collaboration with the Government of Gujarat in New Delhi to promote the indigenous crafts and artisans of the State. The ODOP Wall at Garvi Gujarat Bhawan was officially inaugurated on July 20, 2023 by Ms. Manmeet Nanda, Joint Secretary, DPIIT, and Ms. Arti Kanwar, Resident Commissioner and Secretary (Economic Affairs), Finance Department, Government of Gujarat.
Gujarat, with its 33 districts, is a prime example of the state's wide geographic coverage and potential for a variety of products. ODOP-Gujarat offers a rich collection of 68 unique products, from agricultural goods like groundnuts and cumin to traditional crafts like Gamthi Block print and Mata-ni-Pachedi.
The significant collaboration between ODOP and the Gujarati government has enabled the implementation of product tagging and story cards, which has improved the promotion and recognition of Gujarat's unique products. This partnership intends to attract customers towards emporia, boosting sales, and increasing the visibility of Gujarat’s products at the national level. To further showcase Gujarat’s handicrafts, Garvi Gujarat Bhawan has integrated ODOP products into its interiors.
Interventions by the ODOP in Gujarat have been concentrated on certain products, in particular, to increase their market presence. For instance, Government e-Marketplace (GeM) onboarding drives have been conducted for Sujani Handloom, Jamnagari Bandhini, and Patan Patola.
The ODOP initiative aims to make Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi's, vision of making the country and its people self-reliant by fostering balanced regional development across all districts of the country. The programme selects, brands, and promotes one unique product from each district, showcasing a wide range of products across the country, including handlooms and handicrafts.
