DPIIT recognises 1,17,254 startups as on December 31, 2023

The number of Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) recognized startups reached 1,17,254 by December 31, 2023, as per the information provided by the Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr. Som Parkash, in Rajya Sabha. The Startup India initiative, launched on January 16, 2016, aims to foster innovation, startup growth, and investment in the country's ecosystem. Under this initiative, various programs have been implemented by the government, leading to a notable increase in the number of startups. These startups have collectively generated over 1.42 million direct jobs, contributing significantly to the economy.

The initiative has achieved widespread reach and impact with at least one recognised startup in every State and Union Territory, spreading to 80% of the nation's districts. Notably, 55,816 of these recognized startups have at least one female director as of December 31, 2023, reflecting the government's efforts to promote women's entrepreneurship through various schemes and programs.
