Minister of External Affairs, Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, stated that India and Brazil have made "discernible progress" in their bilateral relations as he held extensive talks with his Brazilian counterpart, Mr. Carlos Franca, about enhancing collaboration in important fields like defence, counterterrorism, space, trade, petroleum, and pharmaceuticals.

After co-chairing the eighth India-Brazil Joint Commission Meeting (JCM), Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, who is in the region for the second leg of his first-ever official visit to three Latin American nations, also inked agreements in the domains of taxes and broadcasting.

He also thanked the Brazilian government for issuing a commemorative stamp in honour of India's independence's 75th anniversary. Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar also spoke with Brazil's Minister of Economy, Mr. Paulo Guedes.

Furthermore, he expressed optimism that the JCM will aid in advancing the bilateral strategic partnership between India and Brazil and noted that the agreements made between the two nations would further promote economic cooperation.
