India’s pharmaceutical exports grew 6.8% year-on-year to Rs. 0.772 lakh crore (US$ 8.10 billion) during Q1 FY27 (April-June 2026), compared with Rs. 0.723 lakh crore (US$ 8.18 billion) in the corresponding period of FY26, according to data from the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil). The growth was primarily supported by strong performance in drug formulations and biological products, which remained the leading contributors to India’s pharmaceutical export basket. Drug formulations and biologicals accounted for US$ 5.98 billion, or 73.85% of total pharma exports, registering 4.14% growth during the quarter. Bulk drugs and drug intermediates, the second-largest category, increased 13.84% to US$ 1.36 billion, while vaccine exports rose 35.68% to US$ 0.39 billion and surgical product exports increased 11.95% to US$ 0.21 billion.

NAFTA, Europe, Africa and Latin America & the Caribbean remained key destinations, collectively accounting for nearly 75% of India’s pharmaceutical exports during Q1 FY27. NAFTA alone contributed 34.28% of total exports, while the US remained the largest export market, with shipments valued at US$ 2.50 billion, followed by Brazil, the UK, the Netherlands and France. The top 25 export destinations accounted for nearly 70% of India’s pharmaceutical exports, valued at Rs. 0.539 lakh crore (US$ 5.65 billion). The continued growth in exports reflects the resilience of India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing and its expanding presence across global markets. Rising exports of vaccines, bulk drugs and drug intermediates also indicate growing capabilities across the pharmaceutical value chain, while continued investment in advanced manufacturing, quality systems, regulatory preparedness and higher-value segments is expected to support the sector’s global competitiveness.
