Union Minister of Education, Mr. Dharmendra Pradhan, highlighted that around 19 foreign universities are set to establish campuses in India during the current academic session, marking a significant step towards the internationalisation of the country’s higher education sector. The announcement was made at the Study in India Edu-Diplomatic Conclave 2026 held in New Delhi. The development reflects India’s growing global engagement in education and increasing attractiveness as a destination for international academic institutions.
The initiative aligns with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which promotes global collaboration, academic mobility, and the entry of reputed international institutions into India. It aims to provide Indian students access to global-quality education within the country, while also attracting international students and strengthening India’s position as a global education hub. Growing collaborations between Indian institutions and global partners in areas such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, critical minerals, agriculture, and sustainable management are further supporting the sector.
