Electric Vehicle (EV) sales rise 28.6% in June; electric passenger vehicles (e-PVs), commercial vehicles (CVs) lead growth: Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations (FADA)

India’s electric vehicle (EV) market recorded a 28.60% YoY increase in total sales in June 2025, according to data released by the Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations (FADA). President of Federation of Automobile Dealers’ Associations, Mr. C.S. Vigneshwar, attributed this growth to supportive government initiatives, particularly the Prime Minister e-Drive Scheme, and a surge in domestic investments focused on EV innovation. He noted that expanding charging infrastructure and rising consumer awareness are helping align India’s EV transition with its broader climate and energy security objectives.
A total of 1,80,238 EV units were sold in June 2025, led by robust growth in electric passenger vehicles (e-PVs) and sustained demand across two-wheelers, three-wheelers, and commercial vehicle segments. E-PV sales nearly doubled to 13,178 units, a 79.95% rise from 7,323 units in June 2024. Their share in total EV sales rose to 4.4% from 2.5%. Electric two-wheeler sales rose 31.69% YoY to 1,05,355 units, capturing 7.3% of the two-wheeler market. Electric three-wheelers continued to dominate EV sales with 60,559 units sold, up 15.79%, accounting for 60.2% of the EV segment. The electric commercial vehicle category, though smaller in volume, posted the highest growth of 122.5% YoY. Overall automobile retail sales crossed two million units in June 2025, a 5% increase over June 2024.
