Embraer, the Brazilian aircraft manufacturer, sees significant opportunities in India across commercial and business jets, military aircraft, and eVTOL segments. The company is in talks with IndiGo and Air India to explore the possibility of selling its E-2 aircraft, which can seat up to 146 passengers. To tap into these opportunities, Embraer has established a fully-owned Indian subsidiary with its corporate office in New Delhi. The company plans to set up a procurement team to explore opportunities in the Indian supply chain and is hiring for various roles, including government relations, communications, procurement, engineering, sales, and marketing. Embraer currently has nearly 50 aircraft operating in India across commercial, business, and defence segments. The company’s CEO, Mr. Francisco Gomes Neto, highlighted India’s potential as the third-largest aviation market globally and expressed interest in deepening collaboration with the country.
Embraer’s presence in India includes regional carrier Star Air and business jets used by entities in the country. The company is also exploring the possibility of setting up an MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) facility for civilian planes, depending on aircraft orders. Embraer has a significant presence in the Indian defence space, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Mahindra Defence Systems to pursue the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program. The Indian Air Force uses the company’s aircraft for the transportation of VIPs and aerial surveillance. He also noted the potential for growth in bilateral trade between India and Brazil, highlighting the long-term relationship between the two countries and their membership in BRICS.
