According to research by ServiceNow, the AI platform for business transformation, emerging technologies are expected to drive significant job growth across India’s key sectors, with 2.73 million new tech positions forecasted by 2028. India’s workforce is projected to grow from 423.73 million in 2023 to 457.62 million by 2028, reflecting a net gain of 33.89 million workers. The retail sector is poised to lead this growth, adding 6.96 million jobs, followed by manufacturing 1.50 million, education 0.84 million, and healthcare 0.80 million, spurred by economic growth and technological advancement.
Tech-related roles are increasing across various industries, particularly in the Professional, Scientific, Technical Services, Manufacturing, and Telecommunications sectors. Software Application Developers are expected to see the largest increase, with 1,09,700 new positions, followed by Systems Software Developers with 48,800 new jobs and Data Engineers with 48,500 new jobs. Other roles, including Web Developers, Data Analysts, and Software Testers, will also rise, with additions ranging from 45,300 to 48,500 positions. With Generative Artificial Intelligence reshaping tech jobs, roles like Systems Administrators and AI Systems Engineers will experience significant task automation, increasing efficiency. Initiatives like 'RiseUp with ServiceNow' are helping bridge the skills gap, ensuring India’s workforce is well-equipped for the demands of the global tech economy.
