Establishment of New Ayush Institutes and Hospitals in the Country

The Government of India is strengthening the country's AYUSH ecosystem by expanding healthcare infrastructure and educational institutions through the National AYUSH Mission (NAM). Implemented in partnership with State and Union Territory governments, the centrally sponsored scheme provides financial assistance for establishing new AYUSH colleges in states with inadequate teaching institutions, setting up 50-, 30- and 10-bed integrated AYUSH hospitals, upgrading existing standalone government AYUSH hospitals and dispensaries, constructing new AYUSH dispensaries in underserved areas, and operationalising Ayushman Arogya Mandirs (AYUSH). States and Union Territories can avail financial assistance by submitting proposals through their State Annual Action Plans, enabling region-specific expansion of traditional healthcare services across the country.

From FY2015 to FY2026, the Government released Rs. 64,069.92 crore (US$ 8.66 billion) under the National AYUSH Mission to strengthen AYUSH infrastructure and implement approved activities across States and Union Territories. Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation of Rs. 10,642.16 crore (US$ 1.44 billion), followed by Rajasthan with Rs. 5,105.13 crore (US$ 689.88 million) and Madhya Pradesh with Rs. 4,788.45 crore (US$ 647.09 million). The continued expansion of AYUSH institutions and healthcare facilities is expected to improve access to affordable traditional healthcare services, strengthen preventive healthcare delivery, generate employment opportunities and reinforce India's position as a global leader in traditional systems of medicine.
