Eveready Industries India Ltd. is strengthening its position in the global battery market with the commissioning of a new manufacturing facility set up with an investment of Rs. 200 crore (US$ 21.64 million). The plant is expected to enhance the company’s capabilities in the alkaline battery segment, catering to the rising demand for high-performance power solutions in both domestic and international markets. The facility, located in Jammu, marks a significant milestone as India’s first operational alkaline battery manufacturing unit, reinforcing the country’s push towards advanced manufacturing and import substitution.
The plant has a substantial production capacity, enabling large-scale manufacturing of alkaline batteries along with associated products such as flashlights and lighting solutions. This expansion is expected to support Eveready’s strategy to increase its share in the fast-growing alkaline segment, which is gaining traction due to rising usage of power-intensive electronic devices. The facility will also improve margin efficiencies through end-to-end domestic production and reduce dependence on imports. Additionally, the plant is likely to generate employment opportunities and strengthen local supply chains, contributing to regional economic development. Overall, the investment underscores Eveready’s ambition to expand its global footprint, enhance product offerings and align with India’s broader ‘Make in India’ and self-reliance initiatives in the manufacturing sector.
