External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Chilean Foreign Minister Mr. Francisco Perez Mackenna in New Delhi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations, trade diversification and cooperation in multilateral forums. The discussions focused on expanding economic engagement, improving market access and enhancing collaboration across sectors such as mining, critical minerals, renewable energy, agriculture and technology. Both sides also reviewed progress in negotiations related to a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), aimed at expanding bilateral trade and investment opportunities between India and Chile. The meeting reflects the growing strategic and economic engagement between the two countries amid increasing global focus on resilient supply chains and diversified trade partnerships.
The leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments and reiterated the importance of strengthening multilateral cooperation through platforms such as BRICS and the United Nations. India and Chile have been expanding cooperation in sectors including pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, clean energy, infrastructure and digital technologies in recent years. Industry experts noted that closer India-Chile engagement could support supply-chain diversification and improve access to key mineral resources required for emerging industries such as electric vehicles and renewable energy technologies. The meeting aligns with India’s broader objective of strengthening economic partnerships with Latin American countries and expanding global trade and investment cooperation.
