FedEx Corporation is set to invest Rs. 2,500 crore (US$ 276 million) in building an advanced automated cargo hub at the Navi Mumbai International Airport. This move will further enhance the logistics and air cargo infrastructure of India. The proposed hub will be equipped with the latest automation technology to increase the efficiency of cargo handling, minimize turnaround time, and ensure reliability. This investment marks the growing international confidence in the developing aviation and logistics industry in India, which is fuelled by the rise in e-commerce, exports, and domestic consumption. The proposed hub is expected to act as a major gateway for international trade, supporting faster movement of goods and enhancing supply chain efficiency across regions.
The project is in line with the overall infrastructure development in India and its efforts to upgrade logistics infrastructure to make it more cost-effective and competitive. The automated cargo hub will facilitate the seamless connectivity of the cargo handling system with multimodal transport infrastructure, such as road and port connectivity, thereby facilitating easy last-mile delivery. The project will also create jobs and help stimulate economic activity in the region. With growing investments in airport development and logistics automation, India is poised to emerge as a leading logistics destination in the world. The FedEx investment further cements India’s position in the global supply chain network, supporting trade growth and strengthening its position in the international cargo and aviation ecosystem.
