Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted India’s large domestic market, sustained economic growth, reform momentum and expanding opportunities for long-term investment at a Business Roundtable with investors and business leaders in Chicago, United States. She noted that India offers global companies a combination of market scale, skilled talent, infrastructure, technological capabilities and a decade of consistent reforms as businesses reassess global supply chains and capital allocation. The discussions focused on “Manufacture in India, for India and for the world”, with investment opportunities across manufacturing, artificial intelligence (AI) and digital technologies, financial services, infrastructure, food processing, defence and advanced technologies. India’s Digital Public Infrastructure, including Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker, Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) and India Stack, was highlighted as a platform operating at population scale.
India’s next phase of growth is expected to create opportunities in high-value activities such as AI, engineering, analytics, product development, semiconductors and electronics, with Global Capability Centres increasingly developing into global innovation hubs. GIFT International Financial Services Centre (GIFT IFSC) is also emerging as an international financial centre connecting global capital with opportunities in India. As global supply chains undergo restructuring, India is strengthening its manufacturing capabilities beyond assembly towards deeper component manufacturing, engineering and advanced technologies, supported by Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes. Initiatives including Atmanirbhar Bharat and iDEX are supporting domestic capabilities in drones, autonomous systems and other advanced technologies. The government is also encouraging global companies to co-develop, co-produce and build products for international markets, positioning India as a platform for global production and innovation. The roundtable was organised by the Consulate General of India in Chicago in association with the US-India Strategic Partnership Forum.
