According to the four leaders' joint statement following the group's formation, the I2U2's initial initiatives will be in India and will aid in agriculture, food, and green energy. The Middle East Quad, nicknamed as "I2U2" after the initials of the participants, was inaugurated by Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, his Israeli colleague Mr. Yair Lapid, UAE President Mr. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and US President Mr. Joe Biden.
According to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, the I2U2 will operate in six areas: water, energy, transportation, space, health, and food security, uniting the skills and resources of the four nations. The UAE is expected to contribute US$ 2 billion in the agricultural and food programme, which aims to increase crop output and thereby help tackle food poverty in South Asia and the Middle East. US president Mr. Joe Biden said that the initiative would draw on US and Israeli knowledge and has the potential to triple India's food output in the region in only five years.
A 300 megawatt wind and solar energy project was also proposed in Gujarat, with an estimated investment of US$ 330 million. This project, and others like it, have the potential to turn India into a global hub for alternative supply chains in the renewable energy sector.
