First 'Made in India' semiconductor chip expected by 2025: Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw

India’s first Made in India semiconductor chip is set to begin production by 2025, Union Minister of Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced at the Global Investors Summit 2025 in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Under Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s leadership, Madhya Pradesh has witnessed rapid growth in electronic manufacturing, with two approved clusters in Bhopal and Jabalpur. 85 companies are engaged in electronics manufacturing in the state, contributing to the sector’s expansion. The government also focuses on building a skilled workforce and training 20,000 engineers in Madhya Pradesh under the Future Skills Programme. Over the past decade, India's electronics sector has grown significantly, reaching a valuation of Rs. 10,00,000 crore (US$ 114.43 billion), with Rs. 2,50,000 crore (US$ 28.61 billion) worth of exports, including mobiles Rs. 4,00,000 crore (US$ 45.77 billion), laptops, servers, telecom equipment - Rs. 75,000 crore (US$ 8.58 billion), and defense and medical electronics. 

Five units are under construction to further boost semiconductor manufacturing, and a national initiative aims to train 85,000 engineers in advanced semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. He credited Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi’s leadership to India’s rise as a global electronics hub. He highlighted new investments in Madhya Pradesh’s infrastructure, including renewable energy projects signed between Indian Railways and the state government. The government’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 focuses on four key areas: infrastructure investment, inclusive growth, manufacturing expansion, and legal simplification. These efforts aim to strengthen India's position in the global technology landscape.
