Since 2014, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has reported a five-fold increase in patent grants and a four-fold increase in trademark registrations per year. The government has taken many administrative and legislative measures to modernise the Intellectual Property (IP) office and decrease legal compliances, as well as make filing IP applications easier, according to a statement.

These activities have had a significant impact on the number of IP submissions and registrations granted. Furthermore, it stated that there has been a significant improvement in the domestic filing of IP applications across all right areas, particularly in Patents, where there has been a 46% growth in the last five years.

On the occasion of World Intellectual Property Day, the ministry will host a conference on "Leveraging India's Demographic Dividend through IP."
