Flipkart launches QR-code-based pay-on-delivery facility for customers

On Monday, Flipkart launched a contactless, QR-code-based payment service for customers who opt for pay-on-delivery option.

Consumers can leverage this service on cash on delivery, by scanning the QR code attached to the item purchased and process a digital payment through any UPI app at the time of delivery. The payment method offers a contactless service and ensures the consumer trust.

The payment builds and in-house fintech advances of Flipkart are enabling new-to-internet users and facilitating bring the next 200 million users to the platform.

Flipkart Head Fintech and Payments Group, Mr. Ranjith Boyanapalli said, “As e-commerce marketplace and fintech keep on uniting, it is an emerging need to address consumer’s rising demand for contactless services. Amid pandemic rising number of users have adopted online shopping. We want to advance our processes at the checkout end also.”

He added, “With 'pay-on-delivery' technology, Flipkart aims to offer customers advance options to payments and flexibility at the time of online shopping.”

The number of UPI-based payments has reported a significant increase over the years, with offline person-to-merchant transactions accounting for 42.5% of all UPI transactions in December 2020.

The e-commerce major mentioned, “As per NPCI data, the pandemic has enhanced the adoption of UPI payments, with 2.64 billion transactions recorded in April 2021, an increase of 100% YoY.
