For India to become a developed country, it is necessary to understand and accept the value of quality: Mr. Piyush Goyal

Mr. Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, and Textiles stated that in order to transform India into a developed country, we must acknowledge and appreciate the significance of quality. He was speaking to the crowd in New Delhi on the 76th anniversary of the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) founding. On this day, a portal for mapping Industrial Units and Laboratories was opened. This is a single portal for data on laboratories and industrial facilities around the nation. This will make it possible to analyze the nation's testing facilities and assist business owners in getting information about testing facilities.

Quoting John Ruskin, “Quality is never an accident. It is always the result of intelligent effort”, the minister stated if we look at the history of developed countries, we discover that those countries who adopted 'Quality' in the early phases of their growth cycles advanced more quickly. He continued by saying that these nations were able to interact with the rest of the world from a position of strength and inculcate the value of having high-quality goods, services, and lifestyles for their citizens.

Mr. Piyush Goyal emphasized that "zero flaws" will help us manufacture goods and services of high quality for people, referring to the Prime Minister's clarion call of "Zero Effect, Zero Defects." He also made the point that we won't be able to exist until our way of life has no impact on climate change. Therefore, he urged action to help reduce the global carbon footprint and mitigate the effects of climate change catastrophes.

He commended BIS for announcing a number of initiatives today and claimed that they might have a profound impact on both the Indian economy and the lives of the populace. The Minister stated that the Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) 2022–27 lays out the road map on which we will all have to strive to embed quality into every citizen of our nation's thinking and mindset. He also commended BIS for establishing almost 4,000 Standards Clubs across the nation to strengthen connections between quality and the general public. He said that this year's initiative to contact five lakh families was just the beginning.

According to Mr. Piyush Goyal, the government is dedicated to raising the standard of India's testing infrastructure ecosystem to that of the globe. Efforts are being made to provide BIS Labs with the most modern technology, including CCTV cameras, automatic report feeding for testing, and an emphasis on accreditation. According to him, efforts are also being made to increase capacity and guarantee that all testing facilities are accessible in labs around the nation. He stated that BIS is considering working with other private laboratories to modernize and enhance existing facilities. He requested from BIS, a plan for reaching the goal of 10X industrial surveillance. He finished by noting that BIS must become the benchmark for all efforts on quality. He promised that BIS will continue to usher in change and lead the movement toward higher standards of quality.
