Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu laid the foundation stone for the Google Cloud India AI Hub in Visakhapatnam, marking a major step toward building large-scale digital and artificial intelligence infrastructure in the state. The project, part of a broader collaboration involving Google, AdaniConneX and Airtel Nxtra, represents an investment of around Rs. 1.41 lakh Crore (US$ 15 billion), making it one of the largest foreign direct investments in India. The AI data centre, with a planned capacity of 1 gigawatt, will be developed across nearly 600 acres in Tharluwada, Adavivaram and Rambilli. The initiative has been facilitated by the state’s proactive ‘speed of doing business’ policy, aimed at attracting large-scale investments and strengthening digital infrastructure.

The project is expected to significantly enhance India’s digital ecosystem by providing advanced AI cloud infrastructure and large-scale data storage capabilities. With upcoming subsea cable connectivity, Visakhapatnam will gain direct links to global regions including the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Australia, boosting international digital integration. The AI Hub is also projected to generate substantial employment opportunities across sectors such as artificial intelligence, cloud operations, cybersecurity and data science, while attracting investments in allied industries like power systems, cooling technologies and server manufacturing. The Andhra Pradesh government has outlined a long-term vision to develop a multi-gigawatt digital ecosystem, targeting a total capacity of 6.5 gigawatts, positioning the state as a key hub for next-generation technologies.
