Indian luxury weddings increasingly embrace sustainability, with couples opting for eco-conscious celebrations. Boutique hotels cater to this demand by offering composted decor, e-vehicle baraats, and locally sourced hampers. These venues implement waste composting, renewable energy, and partnerships with local artisans to minimize environmental impact. Director at Green Spaces and Grape County Eco Resort & Spa, Mr. Tejas Chavan, notes that as vendors, planners, and venues adapt, this green movement will likely become the new normal for many Indian weddings. Rising awareness about climate change, pollution, and waste has led couples to reconsider the environmental footprint of traditional weddings, which can generate tons of waste. Recently, the resort hosted a green wedding for a Gujarati family from Kenya, highlighting the growing trend towards sustainable celebrations.
Popular destinations for eco-conscious weddings include Jaipur, Dharamshala, and Varanasi. Co-founder of Brij Hotels, Mr. Anant Kumar, who runs multiple boutique properties across the country, says that while they do not typically host large-scale weddings, eco-conscious travellers are increasingly seeking intimate, sustainable celebrations. The hotel chain hires over 70% of its workforce locally, operates with minimal single-use plastic, and is transitioning to renewable energy sources. CEO of Roseate Hotels & Resorts, Mr. Kush Kapoor, emphasizes their plastic-free philosophy with glass-bottled alkaline water, bamboo amenities, and biodegradable packaging. The hotels also follow a farm-to-table dining experience with 100% organic produce from their farms. Industry experts are dispelling misconceptions that green weddings are simple, boring, or expensive, showing that eco-friendly celebrations can be grand and beautiful while being mindful of the environment.
