India's Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City) is witnessing growing interest from multinational corporations seeking to establish corporate treasury operations, further strengthening its position as a leading international financial hub. According to JPMorgan Chase, the bank is currently in discussions with more than 100 multinational companies, including firms from the insurance and financial technology sectors, regarding banking and payment solutions for treasury operations over the next 12-18 months. The increasing interest reflects GIFT City's evolving role as a preferred destination for managing liquidity, foreign exchange, cross-border payments and corporate financing. Companies are particularly attracted by the ability to maintain both foreign currency and Indian rupee accounts within a single platform, enabling more efficient cash management while simplifying global financial operations.
The growing adoption of GIFT City is supported by a favourable regulatory framework, tax incentives and expanding financial infrastructure. Banking assets at the international financial centre have already surpassed Rs. 9.40 lakh crore (US$ 100 billion), more than doubling over the past two years, highlighting the rapid expansion of financial activity. Currently, 10 corporate treasury centres are operational, with several leading companies evaluating or planning treasury functions at the hub. By offering services such as cash concentration, liquidity management, foreign exchange and trade finance, GIFT City is positioning itself as a competitive alternative to established financial centres such as Singapore, Dubai and London. The increasing participation of global corporations is expected to strengthen India's international financial services ecosystem, attract greater cross-border capital flows and reinforce the country's ambition to become a preferred destination for global treasury and financial operations.
