The change in paradigm and reality that is poised to sweep through the blue-collar landscape is job seekers' aspirations and their effect on their employers.

A good, secure and productive work environment is needed by the migrant workers returning to work due to the need to maintain a livelihood. The report stated that the visibility of guaranteed wages and health insurance cover is uppermost in the minds of the migrant workers.

Betterplace Co-Founder CEO Mr Pravin Agarwala stated that the Covid outbreak in India had a greater impact on the blue-collar industry than any other. Lakhs of migrants returning to their villages, which resulted in their absence from industry and our daily lives, showed how urban India relies on this workforce.

He said that with the beginning of the festive season across the country, it is heartening to see governments and employers of the private sector rise to this challenge because they expect the time to pave the way for the recovery.

Mr Agarwala said in cities such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, green shoots are already emerging in the generation of demand. The report confirms the fact that the pipeline of employment on the ground is robust.

He said, "With the application of AI-based technology which matches skills and jobs, both job seekers and employers will be winners. As a result, our country and economy win".

The Betterplace report reported that three southern states — Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana — would account for one third of job demand. The highest job development in the city will take place in Bengaluru, followed by Hyderabad, New Delhi and Mumbai, with 58,000 jobs.

Though Bengaluru and Hyderabad are top destinations for job seekers, over 70 percent of the workforce of migrants is in four major states.

Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, Hyderabad and Chennai are the top five cities from which the reverse labour force migrated, and Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand and Odisha are the top six states from which the migrants returned.

The report said the facility management segment would close the year with close to 60,000 openings at 90 percent of January demand levels, and the distribution segment would exceed January figures. With 44 percent job cuts, the on-demand driver division was the hardest affected.
