Google Cloud adds second cloud region in India in Delhi-NCR

On Thursday, Google Cloud India announced the addition of a new cloud region in Delhi-NCR, India, to support the business to assist customers across sectors, particularly public sector in India and across the Asia-Pacific.

With this development, Google Cloud has expanded in India with its second region in the Delhi-NCR. The company did not release investment particulars.

In 2017, Google's cloud first region in India - which includes three ‘availability zones’ - got live in Mumbai. The Delhi-NCR Cloud region also has three ‘availability zones’ and is the company’s tenth such establishment in the Asia Pacific region and 26th worldwide.

 

Cloud regions are physical geographic spots where public cloud resources are established.

 

The new region is expected to benefit customers operational in India with low latency and high performance of their cloud-based data and workloads.

A new cloud region is also expected to contribute to further strengthen Google’s position in India.

Google and Alphabet CEO, Mr. Sundar Pichai said, “Google Cloud is assisting businesses of all sizes solve intricate challenges while leveraging trustworthy and safe cloud technology in the domestic market.”

He added, “That includes corporations such as HDFC Bank, which is leveraging Google Cloud for scale and operational flexibility, and ShareChat, utilising Google Cloud to improve their customer service across 15 different Indian languages. As the world transforms to new-normal, there are many prospect in the future.”

Google Cloud serve verticals involving retail, manufacturing, CPG, healthcare and life sciences, gaming, financial services, media & entertainment, communication service providers, logistics, supply chain and public sector. In India, its clients comprise Voot, HCL, TVS, InMobi, Dailyhunt, etc.

Google Cloud CEO, Mr. Thomas Kurian said, “The second cloud region in India is expected to deliver enhanced business performance for customers with secured and distributed infrastructure that is required to gather IT and business obligations for disaster recovery, while preserving data sovereignty.”

He added, “Google Cloud is strongly dedicated to assisting India's business and economic recovery. A core part of this aspiration is to offer cloud infrastructure and technologies to assist the digitisation services to all corporations in the country. The second region in India is expected to offer significant advantages to our clients.”

Mr. Kurian said the market in India is one of the fastest expanding businesses for the firm worldwide, driven by development of large as well as SME (small and medium enterprises) clients.

He said, “The growth is also supported by the pace of investment to expand our product footprint, go to market footprint, engineering investment, as well as cloud regions. India is one of the fastest expanding markets for us worldwide.”

The top executive highlighted that this is particularly significant for those in regulated businesses such as the public sector, financial services, etc. They added that Google Cloud region in Mumbai is compliant with MeitY certification. The procedure to make the new region in Delhi-NCR certified will be initiated soon.

Mr. Bikram Singh Bedi, Managing Director of Google Cloud India, “The company has begun collaborating with a number of state-owned businesses, government departments, and public sector banks after receiving the certification.

He added, “We are witnessing a solid traction on this engagement. The key reason to set up the cloud region in Delhi-NCR was to make the service more efficient to manage public sector workloads and deliver better expectancies for the public sector.”

Mr. Kurian said the new Cloud region is expected to enable small businesses India including start-ups to leverage on-demand network of Google Cloud, which is more reliable, efficient and affordable.

 

It also offers additional disaster recovery choices for clients to have disaster recovery in the domestic market, while also providing more options for clients to have their data locally, allowing them to meet evolving digital sovereignty needs.

Google and Google Cloud will also maintain to assist its clients with education and people programs. The team is progressing to invest in domestic talent and the regional developer community to assist businesses digitally transform and boost economic recovery.
