GoPro launches in India with Reliance Digital partnership

Mumbai: GoPro Inc., the manufacturer of action cameras, announced its launch in India on Thursday with a partnership with Reliance Digital. The cameras will also be available online on Amazon.com. The American company may also consider setting up a manufacturing operation in India subsequently.

“We see India becoming one of our top five markets globally in the next three years,” said Bryan Johnston, vice president, international marketing who was in Mumbai for the launch. Johnston was also open to the idea of setting up manufacturing in the country two years down the line as demand picked up.

The cameras will be available at 1800 Reliance Digital stores in 500 cities.

The company has three models in India starting from Rs.19,999 and costing up to Rs.45,990. On Amazon, the base model had a 37% discount and was available for Rs.12,400 on Thursday.

“We have priced two of the base models at par with other countries whereas, the premium model is priced slightly higher given the import duties on electronics in the country,” said Johnston who did not want to reveal the investments planned but said that the company will invest in creating awareness and brand building on mass media and social media channels.
