The government has approved 17 projects with a total investment of Rs. 7,172 crore (US$ 809.48 million) under the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme, marking a significant step towards boosting India’s capability in high-value component production. These projects, spread across six categories and nine states, are expected to generate cumulative output worth Rs. 65,111 crore (US$ 7.35 billion). Announcing the second tranche of approvals, Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, said the initiative strengthens India’s ambition to emerge as a major global electronics manufacturing hub. He emphasised the need to build strong design teams, adopt six sigma quality practices, and develop partnerships with domestic suppliers to ensure long-term competitiveness. He added that quality systems will be a core element of the evaluation process and noted that a new skilling framework for electronics manufacturing is under development.

He said that effective control over supply chains will be essential as global geopolitics and geo-economics become increasingly complex. The new approvals bring the total number of projects sanctioned under the scheme to 24. The list of beneficiaries includes Jabil Circuit India, Aequs Consumer Products, Uno Minda, ASUX Safety Components India, Zetfab India, TE Connectivity India, and Meena Electrotech. The approved categories span camera modules, connectors, multilayer printed circuit boards, oscillators, and enclosures, among others. The scheme is expected to strengthen component manufacturing depth, improve resilience in electronics supply chains, and support India’s broader efforts to expand domestic value addition in the electronics ecosystem.
