Government approves 27 manufacturers under PLI Scheme – 2.0 For IT Hardware

On May 17th, 2023, the Union Cabinet led by Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, approved the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme - 2.0 for IT hardware. This initiative includes laptops, tablets, all-in-one PCs, servers, and ultra-small form factor devices.

Applications from 27 IT hardware firms have been approved. IT hardware from well-known brands such as Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo will be built in India. The following are the projected outcomes of this approval over the tenure of the scheme:

  • Employment: About 2 lakh
  • About 50,000 (direct) and about 1.5 lakh (indirect)
  • Value of IT hardware production: Rs. 3.50 lakh crore (US$ 42 billion)
  • Investment by companies: Rs. 3,000 crore (US$ 360 million)

The Minister of Railways, Communications, and Electronics and IT, Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw announced to business leaders and the media that "23 out of 27 approved applicants are ready to start manufacturing on day zero".
