The Government of India has approved the Textiles Focused Research, Assessment, Monitoring, Planning, and Start-up (Tex-RAMPS) Scheme to strengthen research, innovation, and competitiveness in the textiles sector. The scheme carries a total outlay of Rs. 305 crore (US$ 34.2 million) for the period FY26 to FY31. It will be implemented as a Central Sector Scheme, fully funded by the Ministry of Textiles and aligned with the upcoming Finance Commission cycle. Union Minister of Textiles Mr. Giriraj Singh stated that Tex-RAMPS integrates research, data, and innovation to empower the sector and position India as a global leader in sustainability, technology, and competitiveness. The initiative is aimed at future-proofing the textiles and apparel ecosystem by addressing critical gaps in research infrastructure, data systems, innovation support, and capacity development.
Tex-RAMPS is structured around five core components, including promotion of advanced research in smart textiles, sustainability, and process efficiency, development of robust data and analytics systems for evidence-based policymaking, and establishment of an Integrated Textiles Statistical System for real-time monitoring and strategic decision-making. It also focuses on strengthening State-level capacity, knowledge dissemination, and organising sectoral engagements, alongside targeted support for start-ups, incubators, and academia-industry collaboration. The scheme is expected to enhance India’s global competitiveness, improve data-driven governance, generate employment opportunities, and foster closer collaboration between States, industry, academia, and government institutions, reinforcing the vision of a resilient, future-ready, and globally competitive textile ecosystem.
