Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi stated that in the last 11 years, the government has delivered numerous benefits to citizens by strategically leveraging technology. He highlighted that the integration of digital systems has significantly enhanced service delivery, ensured transparency, and empowered the poorest segments of society. Over Rs. 44,00,000 crore (US$ 514.50 billion) has been transferred directly to beneficiaries across 322 schemes under 56 ministries, thanks to the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system, which has also helped save more than Rs. 3,48,000 crore (US$ 40.69 billion) by eliminating leakages.
With over 94 crore broadband connections and 120 crore telephone subscribers, India’s tele-density rose from 75% in 2014 to 85% in 2025. The Digital India initiative, supported by efforts such as the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission, CoWIN vaccination platform, and government e-marketplaces, has reshaped governance into a more transparent and accessible system. India is now recognised as one of the world’s cheapest mobile data providers, driving digital inclusion at scale. The launch of 393 foreign satellites by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and real-time digital payments in remote areas are further examples of India’s emergence as a global tech powerhouse. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi emphasised that technology is not just about platforms but about citizen empowerment and building a “Viksit Bharat” (Developed India).
