Government Develops Industrial Townships Under NICDP Through Centre-State Partnership Model

The Government of India is accelerating industrial infrastructure development under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) through a Centre-State partnership model aimed at strengthening manufacturing, logistics and regional economic growth. Under the programme, the Government has approved 20 industrial nodes across the country, including 12 projects sanctioned during the last five years. To support their development, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has sanctioned Rs. 16,172.95 crore (US$ 1.73 billion) to the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT), which has further released Rs. 14,569.97 crore (US$ 1.56 billion) to project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs) for implementation. Four industrial townships-Dholera Special Investment Region (Gujarat), Shendra-Bidkin Industrial Area (Maharashtra), Integrated Industrial Township-Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh) and Integrated Industrial Township-Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh), have already been completed with world-class infrastructure, including roads, water supply systems, power distribution networks, information and communication technology facilities, sewage treatment plants and common effluent treatment plants.

The remaining 16 industrial corridor projects are being fast-tracked through regular monitoring by DPIIT and NICDIT, supported by digital platforms such as PRAGATI, the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) portal and the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan. The programme integrates internal infrastructure development with external connectivity, including roads, railways, power, water and telecommunications, while ensuring timely statutory approvals through close coordination with state governments and central agencies. Industrial townships are being developed across strategically important locations in states such as Andhra Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana, Bihar, Uttarakhand and Punjab to create integrated manufacturing ecosystems. By providing plug-and-play infrastructure and multimodal connectivity, the initiative is expected to attract domestic and foreign investments, strengthen industrial competitiveness, improve logistics efficiency, generate employment and accelerate India's integration into global value chains, reinforcing the country's vision of becoming a global manufacturing hub.
