The Central Pension Accounting Office (for Civil Pensioners), the Office of the Controller General of Defence Accounts (for Defence Pensioners), the Department of Telecommunications (for Telecom Pensioners), the Railway Board (for Railway Pensioners), and the Department of Posts (for Postal Pensioners) provided the information on the pensioners and family pensioners receiving pension and the associated expenditure during the year 2022-23 under the Union Government.
According to Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, the Government disbursed Rs. 241,777.55 crore (US$ 29.39 billion) to 4,481,245 pensioners and 2,093,462 family pensioners in 2022-23.
The amount of minimum pension/family pension under the Central Government is Rs. 9,000 (US$ 109.41) per month.
