Government e-Marketplace (GeM) Achieves Rs. 18.4 Lakh Crore (US$ 197.72 billion) GMV, Emerges as Key Digital Public Procurement Platform

India’s public procurement ecosystem is undergoing a major transformation through the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), which has achieved a cumulative Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of Rs. 18.4 lakh crore (US$ 197.72 billion). In 2025-26 alone, the platform crossed Rs. 5 lakh crore (US$ 53.73 billion) in GMV, reflecting its growing scale and adoption across government entities. Designed as a transparent, efficient, and inclusive digital procurement platform, GeM has strengthened public spending efficiency while enabling seamless connections between government buyers and enterprises across India. The platform’s rapid growth signals rising institutional trust and its central role in India’s digital public infrastructure.

GeM’s expansion is also driving inclusive economic participation, particularly among Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs), women-led enterprises, SC/ST entrepreneurs, and startups. In 2025-26, MSEs accounted for 68% of total orders and 47.1% of GMV, with over 11 lakhs registered MSEs fulfilling 51 lakh orders worth Rs. 2.36 lakh crore (US$ 25.36 billion). Women-led MSEs secured orders exceeding Rs. 28,000 crore (US$ 3.01 billion), while SC/ST enterprises received over Rs. 6,000 crore (US$ 644.75 million). Startups also gained momentum, with orders surpassing Rs. 19,000 crore (US$ 2.04 billion). Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and real-time analytics, GeM enhances transparency, detects irregularities, and improves procurement decision-making. With procurement by states growing 38.3%, the platform is expanding its reach and reinforcing its position as a key driver of digital governance and inclusive growth.
