The Government e-Marketplace (GeM) has launched 170 new seed categories on its portal to simplify access to quality agricultural and horticulture seeds ahead of the upcoming cropping season. These categories feature nearly 8,000 seed varieties available for procurement by Central and State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and other governing bodies, facilitating the distribution of quality seeds across the country. The initiative was developed in consultation with stakeholders, including state seed corporations and research organizations, ensuring compliance with the Government of India's rules and regulations.
This rollout is part of GeM’s broader strategy to enhance category-based procurement, aiming to improve efficiency, reduce tendering time, and promote transparency and accountability in government procurement processes. Ms. Roli Khare, Deputy CEO of GeM, encouraged sellers to take advantage of these new categories to participate in government tenders and urged seed corporations and state bodies to utilize them for the cost-effective procurement of quality seeds.
