The Ministry of Minority Affairs has implemented various schemes for the welfare and upliftment of minority communities. The Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) Scheme converges five previous schemes. It focuses on skill development, entrepreneurship for minority women, and education support for school dropouts. The National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) has increased the annual family income limit under Credit Line 1 to Rs. 3 lakh (US$ 3,503) per annum in rural and urban areas.
The Ministry also works on infrastructure development through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK). This flagship program creates community infrastructure in minority concentration areas. A convergence model has been adopted to address economic, social, and cultural deficits. The Buddhist Development Program (BDP) has been launched as a pilot initiative to advance the social and economic progress of the Buddhist population, with infrastructural development in sectors like education, health, sports, and renewable energy, covering the Himalayan Belt from Ladakh to Sikkim.
